Boss Of The Road
Here’s something I spotted in traffic last week.

While I’m wholly appreciative of the cool creativity it took to come up with this, I’m just curious – is license plate customization legal?

It is…! You have to pay quite a bit extra, though.

It isn’t legal.Your number plate should be clearly visible and all numbers and letters should be according to the font prescribed by the Transport Authority.
It should also not have any neon lights around it and not in fancy lettering either.

Oh it’s cool. You are assigned a random number butt hen you can request for a fancy number. The have prices based on the uniqueness of the number like a 7777 cots more than a 7878.
If more parties are interested in the same number then they are auctioned to the highest bidder.
happens all the time!

Hey no… though this looks like Boss, this is actually 8055 in a different font.. so in effect, this guy only bought this number… and he is not breaking any rules..

For a second I thought your blog watermark was part of the picture
Suggestion : Putting the watermark vertically on the RHS might look better.
cheers

You’re not allowed to customize the license plate.
Though, in Mumbai, everything just goes as is!

@ Mudra, cool4u: I don’t think it is actually legal. Sometime ago, they enforced a strict law over the colour and font of license plates and this one is misleading (even if it is quite funky).
@ Apoorva: Oye NRI, where do you think?
@ Tanunj Lakhina: I thought so too.
@ maxdavinci: That’s for the number itself. But this customization of font is probably twisting and even breaking the law. I still maintain that it is pretty distinctive, though.
@ Ms.Taggart: I got that. But I don’t think the law allows you to do those fancy things with the font that makes it look like letters instead of numbers.
@ Jinal Shah: Yes, I remember reading about it. But there was a law enforced in Mumbai sometime back when everyone had to standardize their license plates.
@ Satish:
Noted, thanks! But what’s RHS?
@ Ajay: I don’t think so. Remember when they enforced seat belts? No one breaks that law now.

It isn’t legal but it will invite only a petty fine of 100 RS. The owner of that vehicle must have only paid the petty once or twice to the traffic police thanks to our very efficient police

a “fancy” number plate, invites challans, especially towards the end of the month.
8055 is all very well, i think one has to stick to a particular font.

@ Cynic: Vella ekdum…
@ Ankur: Hey, thanks, I’ll check it out.
@ satish: Reminds me of algebra class (prove that LHS=RHS)
@ N: Thank you! I love this template myself.
@ Extempore: Chances are we spotted it in the same place..or perhaps it was even the same car?
@ Australopithecus: Ah I see. But from the comments I gather no one takes notice.

Hey
Been a long time.
I first noticed the http://www.ideasmithy.com watermark and thought someone seems to b promoting ur blog! Lol
Fancy number plates and slogan stickers are fun. I read one that said “Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I drive by you again!”
Interesting…

@ ‘nonnymous: Yup, where you bin stranger? And heh, if I could afford to have car license plates endorse my blog, I’d be Carrie Bradshaw!!!
