    Whatever phone you have, you would still need ‘Windows’ to update stuff on it!!! Check out the ubiquitous fenestration! :P

    If you had watched ‘Pirates of Silicon Valley’ it would have been even better, but I am guessing you haven’t. Windows - Bill Gates’ baby (or brainchild), the operating system that runs on nearly every computer is much needed when you connect your phone to it to have email/contacts/updates synchronized. The phone could be from any manufacturer, could be associated with any carrier, but the computer has to have Windows (98/ME/XP/Vista et al) running on it mostly for you to do anything with the phone! :D
