Follow and know Procedure- know your opening statements, know court language, as simple as “objection-speculating- irrelevant to the evidence on record. Last lawyer i tried wanted 10k retainer 450 and hour, 300 per email/ per call. Everyone lawyer is ever had i did all the work they just knew what paperwork to file. I hate they will not speak to you without paying 1st to have them say I don't want the case youre out 300-400 why not allow me to tell you a small amount about the case then say if you will take it then i will pay
If you represent yourself the court will stitch you up.
If too many self reps succeed they are out of a job.
I could not speak to my kids or cross examine my ex.
But they asked me prove parental alienation.
A fully qualified barrister could not do that. They were literally taking the P.

Question: if I have an important piece of evidence that I need submitted but it won’t be in time by the court date, is there a way I can postpone the hearing or get it into evidence after the hearing is over??? It’s so important I get it into evidence but I’m still waiting on this document and I don’t think it will be ready by then.

Judge is very nice to the criminals in Ontario family court, the applicant has a record of abusing his children, I am not allowed to mention this, he's unprepared every time, did not disclose his financial statement after 7 months, the judge gave him 10 days at first, he didn't listen, then second judge give him one month, i bring a motion, they give him time, no support payment, didn't pay anything for the house, but let him do a motion to sell the house, so corrupt
I filed a notice of motion and motion and my ex’s counsel requested a continuance. I objected as the reason for the continuance was null. Then her counsel requested that the hearing be canceled as the motion was not properly before the court. I objected that the motion was in fact properly before the court since my ex is not following the divorce decree. The judge ruled that the hearing will continue as scheduled, which is less than a week away. My ex’s lawyer submitted zero documents to the court in rebuttal to my claims, and now is past the deadline to do so. I have a strong position, but am still preparing every day to make sure I present my argument well, have the documentation/evidence, and follow court procedures. Im my case, I have the divorce decree to fall on. I had a lawyer for the divorce, but now I don’t really need a lawyer. I am no dummy though and will not be bullied.
Been trying since 2014. Finally went to default as the other individual never showed up and was held in contempt. Have filled out the paperwork 4 times WITH the assistance of self help and it has always been sent back. This last time was due to not having the #2 next to a amended area. They've now had the paperwork for a month and still haven't entered it into review. It feels like I'm banging my head on the wall. No kids no property simple default. Ugh this is in ca and I can't find an attorney to help with this last leg of it for less than 3k retainer.
What about having a gAL in the case ? Is an attorney necessary ? Iv wasted money on two attorneys so far and it just seems like I’m getting the old mother will get physical custody just because she is the female. Fuck family court. Most corrupt industry in America. It’s crumbling. I’m stuck in hearings all the time due to a borderline and things are noticeably getting worse over the last decade. It’s corrupt and broken. Family court destroys family’s.

My dad’s going after me for child support and my court date in is 5 days didn’t know I needed an attorney until today and now I’m gonna have to represent myself.
I'm at poverty level income and cannot afford a lawyer for representation. My situation is complex but the opposing side has the money to pay for a lawyer who is using gaslighting and manipulative tactics knowing I do not know all of the laws and procedures of the court in my state. I don't believe in a JUST system anymore. I believe winning is paid for, not earned. It's not good vs evil, right vs wrong; It's MONEY vs NO MONEY. It's truly sad!!!!! Just to add another little note: I've been observing other court hearings trying to best equip myself. I'm noticing the chatty banter between the entire community of lawyers and judges. It doesn't sit well with me and I am wondering who else feels the same about this system.....
Paid my lawyer 8k in the last 6 months. They’ve not even got the case on schedule and didn’t accomplish anything. Fired them last night. In my “preparing stage” haha.

The judge wants me to communicate to the other lawyer to see my daughtwer and I have to tell them who I want to be the third party to watch us and the lawyer would then communicate it to the mother. Its fucked up in the sense that I can be legally be around anyone without supervision except for my daughter and I always felt like my daughter had love for me in the past but now I cant even see her without supervision, but anyone else without supervision its ok for me to be around them.
There is a lot of pressure to represent youself. There is only one day in court and if you screw up or say the wrong thing for some reason then you will lose. Especially if the judge is yelling at you,, shaming you and being biased and acting friendly to the opposing lawyer as if they know each other real well. Its not fair to go in without a lawyer. I went in without a lawyer, I paid my contribution to legal aid but still dont have a lawyer. I asked for it to be adjourned and next thing they are trying to force me to pay child support after it got agreed upon to adjourn the case until I have a lawyer. I didnt even know we would still have a trial after I asked for a adjournement. I am screwed up because of this. The mother is already withholding my child from me and the judge approves it. The judge said they wouldnt look at my affidavit that I prepared myself. I got treated like garbage and I didnt have any comfort trying to speak my mind to the judge.
